Work Smarter Not Harder

by admin on February 11th, 2010

People always say work smarter not harder. This is especially important in school assignments. We can spend a lot of time working on the wrong things that don’t get us closer to finishing the assignment. I saw this first hand on a flight to CA.

The flight was almost empty and so we each had a whole row to ourselves. The flight attendant offered me and another guy sitting on his own row a bag of chips. We both took them at the same time. He grabbed the top of the bag of chips and with one hand on each side of the bag he immediately tried to pull the bag open. He tried for ten seconds but the bag was heavily sealed and so he couldn’t do it. He looked the bag over astounded at it’s strength and pulled again. A little frustrated he stopped pulling and found the small white lettering at the top of the blue bag right next to a little slit that read “Tear Here for EASY opening.” I sat enjoying my chips while laughing and watching his whole ideal. But as I watched him spend a lot of his energy unsuccessfully I thought of a few reasons why it is a lot smarter to work smarter than harder.

If you work smart you will save time and energy. Working smart is working on the right things in the most efficient and effective possible way. So before you start spending hours working on something spend a minute or two thinking about how best to approach the assignment and ways to more intelligently finish the task.
